Austrian Customs and Transfer of Residence
Personal belongings imported when you transfer your normal residence to Austria may qualify for relief from customs duty and VAT under EU rules, administered by Austrian Customs (Zollamt Osterreich). You generally need to evidence residence outside the EU for a qualifying period and prior ownership and use of the goods. Documents to have ready: passport copy, Austrian residence permit or visa, Meldezettel registration where issued, detailed inventory list, proof of your Austrian address, and evidence of your UAE residence.
Because Austria is landlocked, your goods may clear customs at the port of entry or move under transit to be cleared in Austria, depending on routing. We explain which applies to your shipment.
