Spanish Customs and Change of Residence
Personal belongings imported when you transfer your normal residence to Spain may qualify for relief from import duty and VAT under EU transfer of residence rules, administered by the Agencia Tributaria. Spain typically expects supporting evidence of your change of residence, which often includes a certificate from the Spanish consulate in the UAE confirming your previous residence abroad. Documents to have ready: passport copy, Spanish residence permit or visa, NIE number, detailed inventory list valued and signed, proof of your Spanish address such as an empadronamiento or rental contract, and consular change of residence documentation where required.
Note that the Canary Islands and Ceuta and Melilla sit outside the EU customs and VAT territory for these purposes, so shipments there follow a different procedure. We prepare your inventory and shipping documentation and explain the requirements for your specific destination.
Restricted and Prohibited Items
EU rules apply, restricting or prohibiting firearms and weapons, certain foodstuffs and plant material, endangered species products, counterfeit goods and controlled substances. Alcohol and tobacco fall outside personal effects relief. Wooden packing must meet phytosanitary standards. General guidance only, not legal advice.
How Much Does Moving from Dubai to Spain Cost?
Cost depends on volume, container type, sea versus air, packing level, dismantling needs, port of entry and inland delivery distance. How Long Does It Take?
